Step 1: Measure Width

  • Measure within the reveal of your window as shown in the photo.
  • Ensure precise fitting by taking three measurements across the width of the window: at the top, middle, and bottom. This accounts for irregularities in the window frame.
  • Record the smallest width in millimeters (in the example image, you would write down 900mm wide).

Step 2: Measure Height

  • Repeat the process for height – measuring at the far left, the center, and the far right.
  • Record the smallest height in millimeters (in the example image, you would write down 1800mm).

Step 3: Check Depth

  • Checking the depth of your window reveal is crucial to ensure a neat fit.
  • You will need 55mm of clear window sill to allow for the blades in your shutter to operate smoothly.
  • Check for obstructions between the glass of your window and the outer edge of the window sill – some common ones are: Window latch or lock, handle, or storm bar.
  • Measure from the obstruction to the outer edge of your window sill to ensure you have 55mm clearance (including architrave). If you have less clearance, you can use packers to build out the frame. Please contact us for clarification or order them in the β€˜requests’ section of our order form indicating the clearance you have so we can send the appropriate packers.

Midrail Heights & Additional Information

If your window is above 1750mm high, or has a horizontal storm/support bar running through the window, we require a midrail height. This is a fixed blade for structural support designed to sit in front of the storm bar. Measure from the bottom of the window sill, to the center of your aluminum bar.

If you do not have 55mm clearance (including architrave), it is possible to still fit the shutter with the addition of packers – please contact us to verify – or add to comments in your order. Alternatively, we have face-fitted shutters available through custom orders.
